07/08/2026

The HC Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Hillsborough College (HC), has named Halvern Johnson as director of development. Johnson brings more than 25 years of experience advancing mission-driven organizations through fundraising, partnership development and community engagement.

Throughout his career, Johnson has built partnerships, secured philanthropic support and led community engagement efforts that advanced organizational growth and mission impact. His experience includes leadership roles with All Sports Community Service, the Boy Scouts of America and Gulfside Healthcare Services.

“Halvern brings a strong track record of connecting people, building partnerships and helping organizations grow their impact,” said Garrett Weddle, executive director of the HC Foundation. “His passion for serving the community and experience in fundraising will be a tremendous asset to the Foundation. We are excited to have him on board and look forward to the contributions he will make for our students, donors and community partners.”

As director of development, Johnson will lead the HC Foundation's annual giving efforts, including employee and alumni giving initiatives, donor outreach strategies and Foundation events. He will work closely with college leadership to strengthen philanthropic support and advance the Foundation's mission of securing and stewarding resources for Hillsborough College students and programs.

Raised in Tampa, Johnson attended Tampa Catholic High School, where he excelled as a multi-sport athlete. His athletic success led to a football scholarship to Lane College, where he competed at the NCAA Division II level.

He later completed his degree in Marketing from Johnson C. Smith University, providing a strong foundation for his career in development and relationship management.

The HC Foundation supports Hillsborough College through philanthropy, providing scholarships, program support and resources that help students achieve their educational goals.
