Hillsborough College Awarded $250,000 in Community Project Funding for Artificial Intelligence Innovation Center

02/09/2026

Hillsborough College (HC) has been awarded $250,000 in Fiscal Year 2026 Community Project Funding (CPF) to support the development of a new Artificial Intelligence Innovation Center, following passage and enactment of the federal appropriations package.

The funding was secured with the support of U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor, whose advocacy was instrumental in advancing the College’s request through the federal appropriations process.

The CPF award will further enable HC to establish a high-tech Artificial Intelligence Innovation Center that will strengthen the pipeline to in-demand jobs and support the College’s role as a vital economic engine for the Tampa Bay region. The award will provide new classroom resources and technology that support an advanced educational experience for students interested in applied artificial intelligence.

“We are very thankful to Congresswoman Kathy Castor for her unwavering support of Hillsborough College,” said Dr. Ken Atwater, president of Hillsborough College. “This funding represents a significant investment in our students and educators as we expand our artificial intelligence education and workforce preparation through the implementation of the new Innovation Center.”

Hillsborough College serves more than 46,000 students annually at its five campuses located throughout Tampa Bay. For more information, visit hcfl.edu.
