04/30/2024

The Hillsborough Community College (HCC) Lady Hawks Tennis team won the Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) Region 8 State Championship on April 18-19 at the Tejas Pradip Patel HCC Tennis Center. They will move onto the 2024 National Junior College Athletics Association (NJCAA) Division 1 Women’s Tennis Championship on May 4-8 in Tyler, Texas.

“I am so proud of how this group came together and played as a team to win the state championship,” HCC athletic director and tennis head coach, Sarah Lytle, said. “This is a young team with five freshmen so learning to do this in such a short time is quite impressive. I am excited to coach them at the nationals and fight for another national title!”

HCC completed an overall 9-1 season, with a 4-0 conference win record. To secure the state title, they won five of six singles flights and one of three doubles flights against players from St. Petersburg College (SPC) and Eastern Florida State College.

The Lady Hawks winning scores are as follows:

-      Flight 1 singles vs. SPC (6-4, 4-6, 7-6) – Catherine Goldman

-       Flight 3 singles vs. SPC (6-4, 6-4)– Rocio Martinez Azcarraga

-       Flight 4 singles vs. Eastern Florida (6-2, 6-2) – Yoana Dudova
