Hillsborough Community College’s Zero Textbook Cost Initiative to Surpass Five Million Dollars in Student Savings by Spring 2024

Tampa, Fla. – Hillsborough Community College’s (HCC) Zero Textbook Cost (ZTC) Initiative will surpass $5 million dollars in student savings in textbook costs by spring 2024. Since ZTC’s inception in 2022, the initiative has an estimated savings of $4.6 million, positioning HCC as the leading educational institution in Florida for open educational resources (OER) and ZTC offerings.

"Thanks to the unwavering commitment and tireless efforts of our dedicated faculty, librarians and the exceptional team at the Center for Innovative Teaching and Technology, Hillsborough Community College has spearheaded the Open Educational Resources/Zero Textbook Cost initiatives in the State of Florida. Through their collective commitment, our institution will facilitate a remarkable achievement, saving our students an astonishing $5 million by spring 2024,” said Rich Senker, Vice President of Academic Affairs.

The ZTC initiative offers OER materials and a zero-cost on textbooks in courses for students. These educational materials can be a variety of open-textbooks, electronic journals and related course materials. The goal is for students to utilize these resources at no cost.
