Hillsborough Community College Receives Final Approval as a Baccalaureate Institution

07/05/2022

(TAMPA, Fla., 7/5/22) – Hillsborough Community College has received final approval as a baccalaureate degree-granting institution from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).

The SACSCOC Board of Trustees rendered their decision at their biannual meeting in mid-June. This represents a true moment of significance in the annals of Hillsborough Community College that will forever change the character of the institution.  The SACSCOC decision capitulates the three progressive levels of institutional approval including those of the HCC District Board of Trustees and the Florida Board of Education.

“This approval represents a transformational moment in HCC’s 54-year history,” said HCC president Dr. Ken Atwater.  “Years of focused, dedicated effort went towards this successful outcome.  It is also a testament to the integrity of our institution and our ongoing commitment towards meeting the workforce needs of local employers, in this case the health care industry who came to us with the request to start the BSN.”

The Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing will be the College’s first bachelor’s degree offering.  HCC will welcome its first class for the BSN in the fall of 2022. HCC is also seeking approval from the programmatic accreditor,
the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).

Hillsborough Community College serves more than 42,000 students annually at its five campuses located throughout Tampa Bay. For more information, visit hccfl.edu.
