(TAMPA, Fla.) – The Hillsborough Community College (HCC) Model United Nations (UN) team earned the Distinguished Delegation award, second place, at the Southern Regional Model United Nations (SRMUN) Charlotte Conference March 24-26 in Charlotte, NC.

HCC’s nine delegates included Cory Andrew (Head Delegate), Conner Bozeman, Kevin Ospina Campos, Pedro Tezna Contreras, Perez Espinoza, Gabriella Yamasaki Ferraz-Silva, Sade Mitchell, Maurice Parker and Melany Sampri Bravo. The team represented Norway during the three-day conference, alongside 35 other colleges and universities from around the country representing 67 different countries of the United Nations.

“This was one of the most outstanding groups of students we’ve had to date,” faculty advisor Rebecca Schoffman said. “The level of dedication, passion and decorum was a sight to see.”

In addition to the team delegation award, three students received individual recognition. Mitchell won a Best Delegate award for her work on the Security Council representing Norway, and Parker and Contreras both won a Best Delegate award for their work on the Economic Commission representing Latin America and the Caribbean.

“Seeing all our students rise to the challenges in their respective committees was a series of unforgettable moments,” faculty advisor Eric Fiske said.
