(TAMPA, Fla., 10/19/22) – The Hispanic Outlook on Education magazine recently ranked Hillsborough Community College as 28th among the top 100 two-year schools for Hispanic students.
“The latest available data, from the 2020-21 academic year, clearly shows the negative impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on enrollment in higher education overall, and on the participation of Hispanic/Latino students in particular, with some substantial declines in comparison to 2019-20 figures.”
“The institutions listed here deserve to be recognized and honored for continuing to serve the largest numbers of Hispanics/Latinos, despite the setbacks and challenges they faced over the past years. They have had to make good use of their resources, redefine their modes of educational delivery, and think of innovative ways to support their students, especially the most vulnerable ones (first-generation, minority, economically struggling), in order to weather the storm in the best way possible.”
With over 37,000 students enrolled in the 2020-21 academic year, 34% of HCC’s students identified as Hispanic and Latino. Additionally, HCC is the only federally designated Hispanic Serving Institution in the region.
