The HCC Foundation Partners with Florida Department of Education for New College Enrollment Initiative

08/06/2021

Now. Not Tomorrow., provides students with immediate financial incentives for college.

(TAMPA, Fla., 8/6/21) – The Hillsborough Community College Foundation is thrilled to join together with the Florida Student Success Center for a new college enrollment initiative to provide opportunities for all students to enroll at Hillsborough Community College (HCC). The Now. Not Tomorrow. program will help educate families about the financial incentives that are immediately available for students to enroll in college and was funded through the generosity of the Helios Education Foundation.

The grant will provide 2020 and 2021 Florida high school graduates with an immediate financial incentive to enroll at HCC this fall in an associate’s degree (AA or AS) program. 2020 and 2021 Florida high school graduates automatically qualify for this scholarship if they have taken six or fewer credit hours at HCC or another college or university (dual enrollment does not count toward these credit hours). The funds will be used to cover the cost of attendance, including tuition and fees for fall 2021 enrollment. Each award will cover the cost of one class when students sign up for two or more, and will be made on a first-come, first-served basis to those who qualify. In addition, students who reach completion benchmarks during the semester will receive gift cards as incentives, and will also be provided with free tutoring and mentoring through the Knack online platform.

Students who qualify can visit www.hccfoundation.com/nownottomorrow to fill out an application.

Commenting on Helios’ generosity, Commissioner of Education Richard Corcoran said, “This generous grant funded by Helios Education Foundation will open the door to higher education to students who may think that their dream is out of reach or only for those more financially fortunate – students like me when I was college age. My attendance at my local colleges is truly what set me on the path to success. A special thank you to Helios Education Foundation for their generosity and sincere care for the education of our young people.”

At HCC, students can enroll in an in demand and high-quality associate degree program, such as: biotechnology, cyber security, auto collision, dramatic arts and nursing.

In assessing the potential impact of the scholarship, Florida College System Chancellor Kathy Hebda said, “This scholarship helps students start right now in AA and AS degree-seeking pathways that are uniquely available in our Florida College System. Florida’s 2+2 system of matriculation from a state college to a state university is still the envy of the nation. We are excited to partner with Helios Education Foundation to help high school graduates realize that their path to success is close to home. I encourage our graduates from the class of 2020 and 2021 who have not yet started college to contact their local college and take that first step today!”

Higher education helps jumpstart a purpose into a profession, and students can accomplish that at HCC with less debt and guaranteed transfer access. The time for students to trailblaze their own path is Now. Not Tomorrow.

Hillsborough Community College serves more than 47,000 students annually at its five campuses located throughout Tampa Bay. The College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. For more information, visit hccfl.edu.
