04/28/2021

(TAMPA, Fla.) – Sarah Summerfield, Hillsborough Community College Athletic Director and tennis head coach, was selected as the Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) State/National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 8 Women’s Coach of the Year.

"I am honored to be selected as this year's FCSAA Coach of the Year, representing Hillsborough Community College at the state level," Summerfield said. "Coaching this team of hard-working women has been an honor and very rewarding."

Under Summerfield and assistant coach Chris Nyholm, the Lady Hawks tennis team completed an undefeated season 6-0 and became the NJCAA Region 8 State Champions on April 17, 2021, in Sanlando Park, Orlando. Summerfield received her award that day as well.

"There are a number of people at HCC who provide the framework to make this award possible, including Dr. Atwater, Dean Bentrovato, athletics staff Kiki Keller and Tim Kocher, assistant coach Chris Nyholm and head strength coach and academic advisor Leah Becker," Summerfield said.

The team is preparing to head to Mesa, Arizona, for the National Championship, which begins on May 1.

"This is a huge accomplishment for our Tennis team and our Athletics Department," Dean of Student Services Joseph Bentrovato said.
