(TAMPA, Fla.) – Fifteen Hillsborough Community College student athletes were selected to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Academic First, Second and Third Teams. Despite the 2019-20 academic year being interrupted by COVID-19, these individuals garnered recognition by achieving a GPA of 3.6 or higher.
Representing HCC on the All-Academic First Team are Valeria Rodriguez-Fernandez from the women’s tennis team and Ana de Natali E Brangioni, Nadine Burbrink, Zoe Konjer, Caroline Molossi-Benke, Mariana Volponi e. Giordan, and Isabel Martin from the volleyball team.
The All-Academic Second Team honorees from HCC include Helena Scholze-Hoffman from the volleyball team and Fabiola Candal-Ranalli, Lungile Ntuli and Ana Villalvazo from the women’s tennis team.
Featured on the All-Academic Third Team are Drew Pope from the Softball team, Thierry Moliere from the men’s basketball team, and Holly Wright and Diana Rivera-Nelson from the women’s basketball team.
For criteria, student athletes eligible for selection for the NJCAA All-Academic First Team achieved a 4.00 GPA. Those recognized on the Second Team achieved a 3.80-3.99 GPA, and the Third Team honorees achieved a 3.60-3.79 GPA.
Additionally, the Lady Hawks volleyball and tennis teams were both selected as NJCAA Academic Teams of the Year. The programs recognized earned at least a 3.0 GPA or better in the classroom, with the volleyball team earning an overall 3.45 GPA and the tennis team earning a 3.66 GPA.
