Hillsborough Community College Announces New Student Trustee

06/24/2019

The Hillsborough Community College (HCC) District Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the selection of Rashad Stubbs as the new student member of the District Board of Trustees. Rashad, an international student from the Bahamas, is currently studying engineering with a 4.0 grade point average.  Rashad is enrolled in the HCC Honors Program and is actively involved in the HCC community.  Widely recognized for his volunteerism within the college and the community, Rashad’s service includes the Dale Mabry Campus Student Government Association, Phi Theta Kappa and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.  He has also served as a resident assistant at HCC’s student apartment complex, Hawks Landing, and is a member of the Engineering Club.

The student trustee position was created at the direction of the Board of Trustees to provide a student perspective to policymaking decisions.  As an ex-officio member of the board, Rashad will have the opportunity to share issues and policies that directly affect the HCC student population.

“I want my time on the board to be of service to my fellow students and to the entire HCC community,” said Rashad.

“Our board always wants to ensure that we are mindful of the impact to our students in all decisions that come before us," said Board Chair Dipa Shah. "Having a student trustee provides our 48,000 students with that voice."

Rashad is one of only two student trustees in the Florida College System.

Hillsborough Community College serves over 48,000 students annually at its five campuses located throughout Tampa Bay. The college is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. For more information, visit hccfl.edu.
