Gallery 114 Presents Sea The Light

02/07/2019

Hillsborough Community College Ybor City Campus Gallery 114 presents an exhibition of paintings and collages by Florida Keys artist John David Hawver. Sea The Light will show February 7 - March 7. The artist opening reception will take place on Thursday, February 7, from 4:30-7:30 p.m. with a gallery talk at 6:15 p.m. Events are free and open to the public.

For years, John David Hawver worked in Miami as a commercial artist, but along with traffic, he gave that up to live and work by the ocean in Islamorada, in the Florida Keys, and paint his personal poetic visions, finding inspiration in nature’s design.

“My work is an exploration of making “meaningful marks,” Hawver says. “It’s about the dance of daubs, dots and dashes, squiggles, scratches and patches of color that work together magically to create the illusion of form and depth, space and time.”

His large landscape paintings and collages have been shown extensively in major museums and galleries throughout the south.

Gallery 114 is located in the Performing Arts Building, first floor, Palm Ave and 15th street. Regular hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday 10 a.m. – 4.pm. & Tuesday noon to 7 p.m. Parking is available in the HCC visitor lots, the Ybor Garage on 15th St and the Nuccio Parking Garage.
