Students from the HCC Brandon Campus, led by the Students for the
Environment (SFE) Club and Student Government Association (SGA), are
working on a Food Forest permaculture project. HCC student Kristie
Lafavore, president of SFE, is the driving force behind this sustainable
garden that will serve as a learning tool and resource for the campus
and community.
Professor Tyanne Campbell's math explorations class is joining the
effort as a service learning project this semester. These photos are
from their first visit to the Food Forest site, where they helped
measure the area to find and mark the center, planned the layout and
design, and painted the storage container adjacent to the site.
At least four future class periods will be devoted to the Food Forest
project, as well as a work day on Saturday, March 22. Faculty, staff,
administrators and students are coming together to bring this project to
fruition.
