Hillsborough Community College (HCC) will hold a diesel technician graduation on Friday, January 11, at 11 a.m. at the Ybor City Campus Training Center. The first graduating class in the program’s history will have 12 participating graduates.

The Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater MSA had the third highest annual job growth compared to all the metro areas in the state in trade, transportation, and utilities (+1,800 jobs) in November 2018. The average median salary in the Tampa Bay area for diesel technicians is $42,920, according to CareerSource Tampa Bay.

The diesel technician program, housed at the Ybor City Campus Training Center, is an 1800-clock-hour certificate program focusing on medium/heavy duty truck service and repair. Students can choose to focus on either medium or heavy duty in their last semester. Diesel engine technicians are in high demand and needed to repair trucks, farm equipment, generator sets and many other diesel engine-operated machines. The program ends with a culminating internship and job placement component.

Hillsborough Community College serves more than 45,000 students annually on campuses on Dale Mabry Highway in Tampa and in Brandon, Plant City, Ruskin, and Ybor City.  HCC is accredited to offer associate degrees and certificates by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
