Hillsborough Community College (HCC) marks its 50th Anniversary after opening its doors in 1968 as Hillsborough Junior College. Over the past five decades, the college has grown to one of the largest regional educational institutions with an alumni network of one million and growing.

“This golden anniversary marks 50 years of progress, dedication and achievement for our institution and the students we have served from our humble beginnings at Hillsborough High School to the five campuses and three training centers of today,” stated Dr. Ken Atwater, HCC president. “We are excited for our next fifty years of innovation and inspiration for the Tampa Bay community.”

Today, HCC serves more than 44,000 students annually, offering 190 academic programs across five campuses and three training centers.

With over 84% of HCC graduates remaining in Hillsborough County, the college has an economic impact of over $1.3 billion annually.

The 50th Anniversary will be a yearlong celebration, beginning with the HCC Foundation Presidential Showcase event on September 13, followed by campus and community events that celebrate HCC’s unique academic programs and relationships with surrounding communities.
