Tampa, FL

Hillsborough Community College Ybor City Campus Gallery 114 presents a solo installation by Gulfport artist Akiko Kotani. The Waterfalls of Milford Valley will run January 7-31. The opening reception will take place on Thursday, January 10 from 4:30-7:30 p.m. with an artist talk at 6:15 p.m. Events are free and open to the public.

Akiko Kotani's work embodies the surprising power and attraction of simplicity. The Waterfalls of Milford Valley is a site-specific installation consisting of crocheted white plastic, cascading from atop the gallery's 20-foot ceilings to puddle on the floor. The installation reflects the deep impression of countless waterfalls she saw during her drive through the Milford Valley in New Zealand's Fiordland National Park. Whether her works are playful or serene, they contain a depth of feeling within an economy of means.

The Gallery is located in the Performing Arts Building, first floor, Palm Ave and 15th street. Regular hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday 10 a.m. – 4.pm. & Tuesday noon to 7 p.m. Parking is available in the HCC visitor lots, the Ybor Garage on 15th St and the Nuccio Parking Garage.
