elephant JANE dance comes to Hillsborough Community College Ybor City Campus

Hillsborough Community College’s Visual and Performing Arts Series presents Heidi Henderson’s elephant JANE dance on January 26 & 27 at 7:30 p.m. in the Mainstage Theatre at HCC Ybor City Campus. 

Renowned dancer and dance maker Heidi Henderson brings her Rhode Island-based company to the area for a program of eclectic contemporary work set to music ranging from Franz Schubert to David Bowie and Justin Timberlake. 

Choreographer Heidi Henderson maintains, “In my dances the neatness of minimalist art meets the messiness of life.” 

Heidi Henderson grew up in Skowhegan, ME and now lives in Rhode Island. Her work has been shown in London, Korea, NYC, at Jacob’s Pillow Inside/Out and in many other places in New England. Heidi danced in the companies of Bebe Miller, Nina Weiner, and Paula Josa-Jones, and with Colleen Thomas, Peter Schmitz and Sondra Loring. She is a sometimes contributing editor at Contact Quarterly: a vehicle for moving ideas. She teaches regularly at the Bates Dance Festival and is on the dance faculty at Connecticut College.

Company members of elephant JANE dance performing include Heidi Henderson, Christina Robson, Alex Springer, Edward Rice, and Sarah Gibbons. Their eclectic and robust backgrounds include performing with Bill T Jones/Arnie Zane Company, David Dorfman Dance, Monica Bill Barnes and Company, and Doug Varone and Dancers.

elephant JANE dance will present four pieces from the company’s repertory including Pine 2010, “It wasn’t me who changed.” 2017, Imagine us in silver. 2009 and Leslie 2015.

All performances are at 7:30 p.m. General admission is $10.00. All HCC students, faculty and staff are admitted free of charge with valid ID.  The box office opens one hour prior to the performance.
