Hillsborough Community College has named Cheryl Gonzalez as the new chief diversity officer.
Gonzalez, who previously worked for the University of North Florida as the director of the Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity, joined HCC on Jan. 28.

In her new role, Gonzalez will oversee the office of equity and special programs, which ensures that the school complies with federal and state laws prohibiting discrimination and sexual harassment.

Throughout her career, Gonzalez has received various awards and served in multiple capacities including serving on the board of directors for the Florida Small Business Development Center Network since 2014, serving as the chairperson for the Florida Advisory Council on Small and Minority Business Development from 2011-17, and receiving the Reggie Role Economic Development Champion of the Year award from the city of Tallahassee in 2005.

“We look forward to the leadership and wealth of experience she brings to the HCC community after more than 25 years of dedicated service in the areas of equal opportunity, compliance and diversity,” said Dr. Ken Atwater, HCC president.

HCC is the third-largest institution on the Tampa Bay Business Journal's Colleges and Universities List, with 25,992 enrolled in fall 2018.
