Dr. Nancee Sorenson

Brandon Campus President


Dr. Nancee Sorenson joined Hillsborough Community College in January of 2015 as the first female President for the Brandon Campus. She has a 30 year career in higher education with her most recent position as Vice President of Student Development at the East Campus of Pima Community College in Tucson, Arizona and in 2012 served as Acting President for that campus. Prior to coming to Pima Community College, her work in higher education began in the Indiana Vocational Community College system as Adjunct Faculty and later Counselor, Manager of Special Projects for the Chancellor and Enrollment Services. Dr. Sorenson’s career focuses on student learning and advocacy, workforce development, developmental education, enrollment management and leading strategic initiatives.

Dr. Sorenson’s guiding principle is that “community colleges create opportunities to upward mobility for every citizen”. Recent work that demonstrates her dedication to this principle is facilitating the expansion of the nationally recognized FLATE center in a partnership with Hillsborough County School District, the facilitation of campus Math faculty, Student Development and Adult Education in the creation of non-credit Math Bridge courses, the signing of a five-year Community College Career Collaboration (C4) agreement with Goodwill Industries of Southern Arizona, the acquisition of a Back-to-Work 50+ grant from the AARP and Walmart Foundations, assisting Pima Community College to become a Round 4 TAACCCT recipient and in the development of national partnerships with Grainger™ and TRANE™.

Active in the community both locally and nationally, Dr. Sorenson is a member of Rotary International and serves on a number of boards including The Greater Brandon Area Chamber of Commerce, the Brandon Foundation, Women Leading United, as past President of MHC Health Care in Pima County, the Executive Alumni Board of Indiana State University and the Commission on Academic, Student and Community Development of the American Association of Community Colleges. She completed the Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Master of Science in Agency Counseling at Indiana State University and holds a Doctorate of Education in Educational Administration from The University of Texas at Austin. As a doctoral student at the University of Texas she was named as a Colvert Scholar and Gleazer Scholar by the University with specialization in the Community College Leadership Program. Her dissertation focused on Minority Male Academic Achievement. She is a Peer Evaluator for the Higher Learning Commission, presenter at national conferences and has been the recipient of local and national awards.
