HCC Visual and Performing Arts Series present The Lectern: rule by rule by rule

October 9, 2017

TAMPA, FL – Hillsborough Community College’s Visual and Performing Arts Series present Claire Porter and Sara Juli in The Lectern: rule by rule by rule on October 20 & 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the Mainstage Theatre at HCC Ybor City Campus.

A riot of rules, The Lectern: rule by rule by rule playfully overturns our everyday protocols, manners and laws and exposes them for their freedoms and limitations. In today's climate of alternate facts and changing protocols, is there an upside? Come and enjoy the mixed-up rules of catwalks, dining, debating, tattooing, eulogizing, graduating and law clerking. Using movement, text, sound, song and a catwalk runway, the acclaimed comedic performers upend our day-to-day, necessary-to-survive rule-rituals and find the hilarious in the rule-bending of our daily lives.

The Lectern by Claire Porter and Sara Juli is commissioned by ADF with support from the Doris Duke/SHS Foundations Award for New Works and The Mary Duke Biddle Foundation. Additional support provided by Hilton Durham near Duke University.

About the Company

Claire Porter's PORTABLES are a series of solo comedic movement monologues performed individually and in concert. Each is typically 12 minutes long, and there are typically five or six PORTABLES in a concert. New to PORTABLES is Namely, Muscles, Claire's one-hour, one-woman, seriously silly play about muscles.  PORTABLES also includes group theatre dance pieces scripted and focused on a particular theme and reflecting the uniqueness of the individual's performing theme.
