HCC student attends Harvard for prestigious leadership conference

April 20, 2017

Hillsborough Community College (HCC) student Abdoulaye Ba recently attended the prestigious Public Policy and Leadership Conference at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government. Abdoulaye is one of only 50 college student leaders out of 500 applicants chosen nationwide to attend the conference.
The conference is designed to inspire talented, driven, and diverse first- and second-year undergraduate students to pursue careers in public service. The conference also introduces students to a graduate school environment focusing on public policy and international affairs, and provides them with fellowship opportunities that may help fund their graduate studies.

Abdoulaye has served as the Dale Mabry Campus student body president, HCC student ambassador, National Collegiate Scholar and a member of Phi Theta Kappa. He has implemented many social and educational events for the students and made sure to represent them on collegewide boards. Abdoulaye has led delegations to Tallahassee and Washington, D.C. to advocate on behalf of fellow students on issues such as college affordability, campus safety and discrimination. In addition to these responsibilities, Abdoulaye is also an intern at the district office of Congresswoman Kathy Castor.
Abdoulaye has been accepted to the University of South Florida, George Washington University and American University. He will graduate from HCC on Friday, May 5, 2017 during the 48th Annual Commencement Exercises at the Florida State Fairgrounds.
Hillsborough Community College serves over 45,000 students annually at its five campuses located throughout Tampa Bay. The college is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. For more information, visit hccfl.edu.
