The Hillsborough Community College (HCC) Dale Mabry Campus will break ground on its new state-of-the-art Allied Health Building at a ceremony to be held on Thursday, October 5 at 9:30 a.m. The four-story, 62,670-square-foot building will contain a simulated hospital allowing multiple health science programs to work together, creating conditions found in real-life situations.  Thursday’s ceremony will feature remarks by Dr. Ken Atwater, HCC president, State Representative Janet Cruz and State Senator Dana Young.

“HCC’s health science programs will be greatly served by the addition of such an advanced facility at the Dale Mabry Campus,” stated Dr. Ken Atwater, HCC president.  “The technical advances and the creation of real-life health scenarios will greatly assist in preparing future generations of health care professionals to serve the greater Tampa Bay area.”

The Allied Health Building will house facilities for the emergency medical services, medical laboratory science, nursing and respiratory care programs.  The facility will provide space for classroom instruction and hands-on learning using the latest technological advances employed by the health sciences fields.

The Allied Health Building will contribute significantly to the preparation of health care professionals for the region’s workforce.  Over the next ten years, health-related jobs in the Tampa Bay region are projected to grow by more than 50,000, with some job fields expected to grow by as much as 40%.  This job growth will have a tremendous effect on the region’s economic base as many of these job fields average $40,000 per year in salary.

The construction team for the project consists of architects Harvard Jolly and the Gilbane Building Company.  The project is estimated to cost approximately $23 million.

The Dale Mabry Campus is located at 4001 W. Tampa Bay Blvd., Tampa, FL 33614.

Hillsborough Community College serves over 45,000 students annually at its five campuses located throughout Tampa Bay. The college is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. For more information, visit hccfl.edu.
