Gallery221@HCC Presents Jack Bond: Multiple Layers

August 21, 2017

Gallery 221@Hillsborough Community College, Dale Mabry Campus, is pleased to announce its upcoming exhibition, Jack Bond: Multiple Layers. The exhibition will run from August 21 – September 28, with an exhibition reception to be held on Thursday, August 24 from 5–7 p.m., including a presentation by the artist starting at 6 p.m.

Culled from magazines, catalogs, and ultimately anything destined for the trash bin, Jack Bond deconstructs and then creates multi-layered compositions that seek to explore the many complex ways in which humans employ masking as a personal defense.

Born in Pensacola, Florida in 1948, Bond spent his childhood growing up in St. Petersburg, Florida. He attended St. Petersburg Junior College and The School of Visual Arts in New York. He finished his formal education at the University of South Florida. Early in his career he worked as a graphic artist and exhibited his work extensively around Florida, showing a range of work from serigraphy and painting to gum bichromate photography.

In 2004, the Horizon Line Gallery in Tampa held a 20-year retrospective of his work. In 2008, Bond began his current process of creating collage from found items. He owned the Kent Bond Gallery in Tampa for seventeen years, and currently resides in Temple Terrace, Florida. His exhibition at Gallery 221@HCC explores identity and what we reveal as well as what we conceal.

All programs are free and open to the public, and are made possible in part by the support of HCC Student Activities/Service Fees and the Student Government Association.
