Two Hillsborough Community College (HCC) apprentices won awards at the 2017 Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) National Craft Championships on March 3, 2017 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

HCC apprentices Vincent Como and Billy Locy of the ABC Florida Gulf Coast Chapter in Tampa took home the gold and bronze medals respectively in the fire sprinkler competition.

Como works for Tampa-based Wayne Automatic Fire Sprinklers Inc. and received a cash prize of $750 in addition to his gold medal. Locy works for Clearwater-based Piper Fire Protection and received a cash prize of $350 in addition to his bronze medal.

“We are very proud of all five ABC Florida Gulf Coast competitors,” said ABC Florida Gulf Coast Chapter President and HCC Board of Trustees member Steve Cona III. “Each of our competitors, which included electrical, fire sprinkler and sheet metal apprentices, competed at the highest level and made our chapter and their companies very proud.”
