Scholarship donors and deserving Hillsborough Community College (HCC) students were recognized this morning by the HCC Foundation at the 2015 Scholarship Partners Breakfast.  The event was held at the Palma Ceia Golf and Country Club and included remarks by HCC scholarship recipients George Polanco, HCC alumnus from the class of 2014, and Tatianna Rivers, a current student at the SouthShore Campus and recipient of the Andreas A. Paloumpis Scholarship.

“Today’s event was an opportunity to recognize the generosity of our scholarship donors from across our community and to showcase the outstanding HCC students who have benefitted so greatly from these scholarships,” stated Dr. Ken Atwater, HCC president.

The event included a check presentation from Board members of the William A. Gregory Foundation, which presented a $25,000 check to support the William A. Gregory Scholarship Fund. The Foundation has provided $25,000 donations for each of the last two years. Since 2014, a total of 20 students have benefited from the generous contributions to the William A. Gregory Scholarship Fund.

The HCC Foundation awards scholarships to students in all programs, including workforce training, information technologies, the arts, health sciences and related fields.  Since 2000, the Foundation has awarded nearly $8 million in scholarship assistance to more than 7,500 students.

The event was sponsored by the Suncoast Credit Union Foundation.

The HCC Foundation secures and stewards philanthropic support to enhance the mission of Hillsborough Community College and the success of its students.  Governed by a volunteer board of directors, the Foundation directs major gift fundraising activities in support of educational excellence.  While public funds maintain the college, gifts from alumni, friends, corporations and foundations provide for a margin of excellence that enriches the HCC experience. Foundation resources strengthen programs, support deserving students, enhance facilities, and address other areas of need.

Hillsborough Community College serves over 45,000 students annually at its five campuses located throughout Tampa Bay.  The college is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
