HCC Volleyball Crowned 2015 FCSAA State Champions

Tampa – The Hillsborough Community College (HCC) women’s volleyball team were crowned the 2015 FCSAA State Champions today after defeating Polk State College in 3 sets, 25-22, 25-17, 25-21.  The Lady Hawks entered the State Championship Tournament as the #1 ranked team in Florida and the #8 ranked team nationally according the latest polls by the National Junior College Athletics Association (NJCAA).  The Lady Hawks cruised to their second state title in three years and will now head to the NJCAA National Championship Tournament to be held in Casper, WY on November 19-21. 

“I am very proud of this team and what it has accomplished this season,” stated Gary Larkin, HCC volleyball head coach. “The team has exemplified a high level of discipline and teamwork each game and we went into this tournament with a tremendous amount of confidence and belief in our ability to succeed.”

In addition to winning the state tournament, HCC also took home individual accolades with freshman Abigail O’ Ferrell named as the most outstanding player at the tournament and Coach Gary Larkin was awarded the Mary Andrews Coach of the Year award. 

The Lady Hawks arrived at the State Championships held in Pensacola, FL this weekend as 2015 Suncoast Conference Champions after defeating South Florida State College in 3 sets at home on October 23.  The awards continued with Coach Gary Larkin being named the 2015 Suncoast Conference coach of the year on October 28.

Hillsborough Community College serves over 45,000 students annually at its five campuses located throughout Tampa Bay.  The college is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
