Tampa - The Health Sciences Division of Hillsborough Community College (HCC) is pleased to announce the launch of a new advanced technical certificate specializing in Computed Tomography (CT).  Computed Tomography uses specialized x-ray equipment to visualize cross-sectional anatomical structures inside the body for the demonstration of pathologies and disease processes to aid physicians in diagnosis and treatment planning.  The new program offered at the Dale Mabry Campus will begin in the 2016 fall semester.

“Computed Tomography is now a part of the daily practice of radiography, radiation therapy and nuclear medicine modalities,” stated Leif Penrose, dean of health sciences at the Dale Mabry Campus.  “The CT certificate program has been developed at the request of healthcare providers in the greater Tampa area and will offer imaging professionals in all three of these modalities the opportunity to take evening classes and to add this valuable certification to their credentials.”

Program eligibility is limited to American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) registered radiographers, radiation therapists or nuclear medicine technologists or equivalent (NMTCB) registration.  Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will be eligible to take the post-primary certification exam offered by the ARRT for computed tomography.

This ARRT CT exam qualifies all graduates to apply for Florida state licensure and operation of all CT equipment, including diagnostic scanners.   Nuclear Medicine Technologists will also be eligible to take the NMTCB-CT specialty exam.

The program application deadline for the 2016 fall semester is July 18, 2016.  Additional program information can be obtained by contacting CTprograminfo@hccfl.edu or by visiting the program website at http://www.hccfl.edu/departments/health-science/computed-tomography.aspx

Prospective students are encouraged to visit http://www.hccfl.edu/registernow/ to begin the application process.

Hillsborough Community College serves more than 44,000 students annually at five campuses and three centers throughout Hillsborough County. HCC is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
