The Hillsborough Community College (HCC) Emergency Medical Services (EMS) program has acquired a SynDaver synthetic human from SynDaver Labs. SynDaver Labs manufactures synthetic humans for training in schools, hospitals and military installations. HCC is the first community college in the state of Florida to acquire this new validated technology which replaces live animals, cadavers and even human patients in medical device studies, clinical training and surgical simulation.

The acquired SynDaver anatomy model will assist EMS faculty in day-to-day instruction on the human anatomy, as well as such procedures as the installation of chest tubes, the cricothyrotomy procedure and Endotracheal Intubation (EI).

SynDaver models are equipped with a functioning respiratory system with a trachea, diaphragm and lungs, a complete digestive tract from esophagus to rectum, a urinary tract with kidneys, gall bladder, pancreas, spleen and reproductive organs.

SynDaver Labs is a Tampa based company that was featured in early 2015 on the ABC television show Shark Tank. SynDaver’s products have also been featured on MythBusters, Grey’s Anatomy, AMC's Shipping Wars, and the series finale of CSI.
