Art Infinitum: A Celebration of Emerging Artists: 13th Annual High School Fine Arts Competition | Gallery 221@ Dale Mabry
Calyx Schenecker Art Infinitum – A Celebration of Emerging Artists
Now through April 27 at the Dale Mabry Campus
TAMPA, FL - Hillsborough Community College Dale Mabry Campus and Gallery 221 present the 13th Annual High School Fine Arts Competition, newly titled the Calyx Schenecker Art Infinitum– A Celebration of Emerging Artists with an Awards Reception from 6 – 8 pm on Thursday, April 25. Nine scholarship winners will be announced at the Awards Reception, in addition to nine honorable mentions.
For the past twelve years, Hillsborough Community College has hosted a county-wide "Fine Arts Competition Showcasing Hillsborough High School Students," giving local students an opportunity to display their talents and receive recognition for their accomplishments in the visual arts.
A generous gift from the Calyx and Beau Schenecker Memorial Fund has been created to sustain this longstanding relationship between Hillsborough County high schools and Hillsborough Community College. The renamed “Calyx Schenecker Art Infinitum” honors an accomplished artist, star student, and young athlete who tragically passed away in January 2011.
"HCC looks forward to hosting this creative event each year. The competition is especially meaningful because of the gift that has been entrusted to us from the Calyx and Beau Schenecker Memorial Fund. This endowment will allow us to honor Calyx and the joy that art brought to her, as well as other promising artists today and into the future" said Dr. Adrienne Garcia, Executive Director of the HCC Foundation.
"My family and I are honored to partner with HCC to give extremely talented young people an opportunity to exhibit their work to the entire community. I can't think of anything Calyx would have loved more than to have her name associated with this great event," said Parker Schenecker, Calyx's father. "The chance to let the Tampa Bay community know Calyx better through the arts is a gift to me and those who loved her."
“Calyx Schenecker Art Infinitum” is showing on the 3rd floor of the HCC Dale Mabry Campus library (one floor above Gallery 221) through April 27, 2013. The Reception and Awards Ceremony will be held on Thursday, April 25th, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. with Award Presentations at 7:00 p.m.
