Hillsborough Community College Hosts Courageous Conversation Speaker Series

Hillsborough Community College’s Office of Diversity and Equity will hold its Courageous Conversations Speaker Series on Tuesday, March 22nd. Courageous Conversations is a collaborative speaker series that examines current events and policies in our nation that directly impact our community.
 
The guest speakers for this event, Ms. Kathleen Robbins and Ms. Gina Duncan, discuss their unexpected journey of living as a trans women in America.

Guest Speakers:
Kathleen Robbins is a lesbian trans woman who has experienced life from both sides. Kathleen graduated from the Air Force Academy, flew in Vietnam, and had a beautiful wife and son. Her wife died after 20 years of marriage, her son went off to college, and she transitioned into her new life in 1990. In the past 25 years, Kathleen was CEO of a small cell phone company; completed a Doctor of Ministry degree and served in the Peace Corps in Botswana. Kathleen also lived in Haiti for 15 months co-founding an economic development program that continues today.
 
Gina Duncan was born Greg Pingston and lived as a man for 50 years. Greg was a standout football player in high school and earned a football scholarship to attend East Carolina University. Greg transitioned to Gina in 2006. Greg, now Gina, was a father of two, a husband, a brother and a son. She was the first transgender person to serve as president of a major chamber of commerce in the country. She was the president of MBA’s Come Out With Pride event, which annually draws over 100,000 people to the Orlando area. In 2014, Gina became Equality Florida’s Transgender Inclusion Director embarking on a career in corporate transgender inclusion, training and consulting.
